Come on in, take a seat. Let me tell you a little about this place.
First off, everything has moved here, lock stock and barrel. Which means I’ve imported everything from my 5 years over at Typepad and my previous imports to there from Live Journal. All the threads, comments, pics, discussions have all come with us (some of the really old stuff is missing pictures but everything that went on my blog is in my flickr account anyway). My website has also come with us and is now in the menu up at the top of the page. The only thing missing is the shop for my original paintings because I need to work out which is the best way to put everything in there.I also need to add some external links to places but first I have to gather them all up.
As you can see I’ve decorated already although there’s some DIY still needs doing. Eventually I will build my own, unique theme but the workshop starts next Monday and for the next 2 months I won’t have time to play with it all. I like this theme fine for now anyways although I’d like to change the colours up a bit. You may have noticed my header is gone. Many thanks to Anam the graphics genius for helping me out with it when I first put my website up at such short notice – I’m still using it for my business cards and it might make a return when I redecorate, who knows? But I’m actually getting a new one done. Rosie had an idea and she’s already working on the design. When it’s finished she’s going to take the little bird over there –> down and reframe the new logo in it. Hopefully that won’t take too long.
The only major issue I’m having is getting my mail redirected. My domain is masking my wordpress pages instead of mapping ot them. This means (for now) that all links to this site are http://rhomany.org.uk where they should be, for example, http://rhomany.org.uk/blog or http://rhomany.org.uk/art journals. I don’t know at the moment if that’s because my domain isn’t with my hosting company or if it’s a quirk of wordpress but it’s definitely something to do with the permalinks thing. We shall find out but again, it’s something that unless some web genius (looks at Alix and Charlie) happens to know what’s causing it and how to fix it quickly, it’ll have to stay like that until I get my workshop finished.
So, what’s with the move in the first place? Several things. I’ve been paying for the $8 Typepad account (plus £1.50 currency conversion charge) and using a free website for a while now but the free website, while very good, doens’t perform well in Google searches. In fact I couldn’t get my website to show up at all in Google searches, even knowing all the content and metatags. Also, this hosting company is 1/3 of the price of Typepad and I am working on a budget right now. Plus, they’ve gone 100% green which I like and think is important and fits with what I’m trying to do with all this recycling and whatnot every week. It’s important enough to ignore the act they’re called FatCow.com and choose them anyway. Besides, the cow is kinda cute don’t you think?
Now… time to see if my tweet feed works…
