I love all things Halloween and whilst I might create and love children’s and whimsical style art, my not-so-inner-Goth likes the macabre. So for this Halloween, instead of just pointing out the cute kind of art your find on Etsy, I’m going to share a couple of really dark and ghoulish bits and pieces.
Dzaet
Dzaet is such an amazing artist. She has that dreamy quality going on where things aren’t always quite what you expect and there’s always something that catches you off guard. I love how she uses symbolism in her work and mixed old and new together. And she’s my friend so I get to shamelessly promote her
Grimvisions
Who could leave Grimvisions out of a ghoulish Halloween art compilation? The sculptures are so detailed as to look life-like or rather, ‘death-like’ and both ghoulishly ugly and artistically beautiful at the same time.
Basso
Not familiar with the work of Bill Basso? Check out his gallery and be amazed and awed by his use of brown and grey tones. His paintings have that olde worlde look to them, like they’ve been sitting in a dusty old attic for centuries. His use of light and shadow is one of the best I’ve seen.
Nicoletta Ceccoli
Nicoletta’s work has an Alice in Wonderland quality to it. Both beautiful and dainty, with pretty girls and beautiful dresses, there’s always something else happening that could at any moment turn into a nightmare. Her portfolio is incredible.
Lisa Falzon
Lisa paints the most beautiful works then turns them into brooches, mirrors, jewellery and more. She often uses gothic themes or darker fairytales, such as Alice or Dorian Grey. This is one of my favourite pieces.
Viona
If you’re more into textiles and photography than fine art, check out Viona Art and the incredible costume design of Viona Ielegems. I’m stunned by her use of fabric and texture to create a mood within a photograph. And all those costumes are made and designed by her.
And that’s it for this Halloween post because I have the Eve to Eve class opening later today and before I get to that I have things to do, as usual.
