As you may have figured out by now, this Sunday I have my first major craft fair. Sure, I’ve done the village hall type ones where you get maybe 50 people wander past and spend most of the day painting while old ladies ask you questions, but I haven’t done a major event before. I’m nervous and excited and wondering if I’ve got anywhere near enough stuff to take with me, but I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve roped in my friend Mel to come and help me set up, cover the stall and generally keep me company and all I have to do is convince my body clock it wants to get up at 5am on Sunday morning to make the hour and a half drive.
For those in the UK, the event is in the Midlands at Warwick Exhibition Centre on Sunday 22nd November, 10am-4pm. It’s an event called ‘Contemporary Crafts Shopping Experience‘ and it’s run by the lovely Claire Vize of Lady Luck Jewellery, who was basically sick of the big events being so expensive and trawled a few sites to find local artists, designers, beaders and other creative folks to pull together for a reasonable fee. I believe tickets are £3 and under 16s are free so it’ll be a good day to take the kids out to do their Christmas shopping. If you make it, do stop by and say hello, it would be lovely to see some of you there.
So far it’s been fun, but crazy crazy crazy crazy busy. There have been a few hairy moments as not one but 3 of my orders went AWOL for three weeks (thanks Royal Mail) but they’ve all arrived so me and my little helper now have smart black t-shirts with my logo on, I have a table sign, canvas bags, my Christmas cards have arrived and I have some fab looking glossy postcards. I’ll show you some of those in the next couple of days. I have lots of little bits and pieces like gluing and sticking and price tags to do so I may be pulling an all-nighter. Not my first either, although I do still have the vampire gene from my days of all night gaming, so it’s not really a hardship.
I have a very long list of Important Things To Do which ranges from picking and packing to buying tissue paper for wrapping and making tags and varnishing things and going to the bank for float money and picking up last minute orders and other things like that. Sunday I plan on taking the day off to tidy up and put things away and do some accounts.
And clear my TV queue because I can’t fit any more episodes of Ghost Whisperer on til I do.
Lots of updates coming next week – stay tuned!

Wow Rhomany I am so sorry your show was poop too!
I did actually have a conversation about you to my friend Jane whilst we were sitting moaning about being in a draughty old village hall. I was wondering if yours was better than ours! Myself and Jane who have been doing craft fairs for roughly 5 years now have just about given up hope, we are both only doing a handful next year and mine are only xmas ones!
It is such a shame that it seems craft fairs are dying out in the UK at the moment!
Huge hugs for you sweetie, I know how you are feeling!

Thanks Micki. The best part of the day was meeting other illustrators and artists to be honest. I’m bummed that I lost out on not even making my fees back, but I have lots of stock for the Etsy shop at least!
