A A master of the ‘time out’ concept, practicing hard.
No, I didn’t get lazy with the blog updates again. I took this weekend off, and I did so for a couple of reasons. For a start, I needed to gather myself back together after working flat out for the craft fair and then having it be a complete flop. I needed to do some art just for me for a day or so. So out came the art journal and I played for a bit. I’ve been working on some more NaNoJouMo prompts and taking time to sketch and relax with my poor cats who’ve spent the last two months being told ‘please get down mummy’s working’. I also needed a weekend off to stay home in the warm and get rid of this damned cold that’s been plaguing me for the last 6 weeks. It’s still not gone, but I don’t feel so washed out as I did.
And I needed time to take stock. I’ve felt like I was spread very thin lately and needed to look at all the things I’m doing and work out where I want to focus my energy. I’m still working on this, because there are logistics I need to work out. The craft fair left me a big chunk out of pocket and I need to figure out how to recoup those losses. I also need to take some time to get my stock back up in my Etsy shop pronto (that’s tomorrow’s plan).
I love the teaching I do and I want to expand on it, because that’s where I get the most satisfaction. I love being able to show people things and see them take their own expertise and turn it into something completely different. Or even do exactly the same as me and still have it look different to mine. The way different artists take the same journey and manage to end up in different destinations is a constant wonder to me. I don’t think I would ever tire of teaching, it’s one of those things that is either part of your soul or it isn’t, just like art. I have an offer to do some online classes early next year – more on that later – and I have at least one more art journaling class almost written up. I’ll start filming for it in late December and it should be ready for around February.
Speaking of teaching, classes are still going well. They all still open too if anyone’s interested in joining us. Eve to Eve is on Week 5 currently so we’re half way through the course, but there are people still working on weeks one and two, so don’t think you’d be behind or missing out on anything.
I also want to revive my poor neglected little YouTube channel. I need to get back to doing my Rosie & Marmalade’s every week. I miss them. I’ve done some Christmas ones but nothing else for months. Again, craft fair madness. I’m coming to the conclusion that I’m not a big fan of craft fairs. It’s a heck of a lot of work for a few hours and it seems to cost a lot to get into most of them. If you only do those then perhaps it’s easier but I find it conflicts with my teaching schedule. Given the choice I’d rather teach, so maybe I’ll just stick with my online shop.
Anyway, enough waffling. Just wanted to let you know what was happening here. I have lots of updates planned over the next week so stay tuned. As soon as manage to clear enough space on the desk to get the scanner out I’ll be scanning some more art journal pages, but first I need to re-organise the shelving on my desk. I don’t have enough room and I need to rectify that before I embark on any more adventures!
Oh and I really want a room like Ricë’s. Except I want purple and red and silver instead of orange and pink and gold. You think Santa could arrange that for me?
