I have to say to all of you, you are showing visual improvement from one picture to the next and the sheer volume of work you’re all churning out as practice pieces is incredible!

Here’s some of what they’ve achieved in the last ten days and some of their comments regarding what they think of the class so far.

Linda

Linda started off with some skill in faces already, but wanted to learn a more ‘realistic’ style. After a few bumps, she’s really taken to it!

Linda says: ‘Goodness, this is great!  I always knew there was something, other than using the end of my pencil as a template for, say the eye, as a guage the place the features. Rhomany, this is genius!’

Cindy

Cindy  classes herself as a beginner at drawing, who has only ever really doodled before and never done faces. Can you believe it?! Look how lovely her girls are turning out.

Cindy says: ‘I’m learning as much from Rhomany’s lessons as I am from everyone who has posted their work … very happy to be in class!’

Sandra

I don’t have before pics from Sandra, but her faces are beautiful and each one gets better than the last

Sandra says: ‘I can’t say how much I admire your methods of teaching (been a Ustream fan for awhile and KNEW I had to take this course.  Don’t want to admit how many other portrait classes I have taken (from well respected artists) and still couldn’t do that damn oval! ‘

For some reason I had huge issues doing the show today. I started off on LiveStream and ended up on Linqto (thanks Kelly!) So only part of the show can go on iTunes, because I can’t download from Linqto. You’ll find the first two parts of the show here and here, and the rest of the show here.

I’m going to spend some time trying to sort this out, so there won’t be any live shows until I do. I just don’t have the time or patience to spend an hour getting my internet to play nice to do a live show and I’ve been having trouble for a couple of months now. I’m going to get my internet service onto it again and see if they can fix it.

Ive been absent due to an internet issue that’s been ongoing for a few weeks and finally came to a head on saturday when, apparently, my modem hit it’s last furlong. Man in a van came yesterday to umm and ahh over it, took it away and brought me a brand new one today. So I *think* we’re fixed.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Nothing in particular on the agenda today, I’m just going to try and get used to my new camera set up (oooooh!) and finish off a few journal pages I’ve not had time to play with yet.

These are the kind of portraits we’ll be concentrating on over the three classes. But don’t worry, we’ll go step by step and build it up from scratch, so even beginners can follow along.

White Haired Goth Girl - Work in progress

I really wanted to try a minimal colour palette, so my white haired goth girl has plenty of attitude to make up for her lack of colour.

'Estella' - in 8x8 art journal

I couldn’t decide on a name for this groovy haired chick, so I asked on my Facebook page. Eventually we decided her name was Estella. This curly style is one of the hair styles we’ll look at when we work on female portraits.

Dastan, Prince of Persia - in 8x8 art journal

This dashing chap is based on a photo of Jake Gyllenhaal from the film poster for The Prince of Persia. I loved his red sash so decided to move it and incorporate it into the portrait for an interesting background.

All of the above are mixed media pieces, done with watercolour paint, colour pencils and oil pastels.
