New Challenge! Mastering Journal Art

20120421-214908.jpg

Members of my new site will already know about my new weekly art journaling challenge.

I’ve heard a few people saying they want to learn some art history and take inspiration from past masters of art, so I did a little poll on my show on Wednesday. Most people said they liked the idea of taking inspiration from the masters, and wanted something simple but challenging.

So, here’s the challenge. Each week I post a piece in a particular style. It might be a well known piece by an obscure artist, or an obscure piece by a little known artist. We’ll take inspiration from the style for our artwork, then add another element which might be anything from colour, theme or emotion to lyrics, a quote or a technique.

Challenge 1 went up on Wednesday, so you still have time to join in.

You can join the challenge here: http://rhomany.org.uk/classes. We have our own discussion forum, so if you know something about the topic of the week, by all means share what you know.

UStream Today Is Go!

ustream-logo

Yes, there will be a UStream today! Same time, (5pm – 8pm GMT/12-3pm EST) same place.

Ive been absent due to an internet issue that’s been ongoing for a few weeks and finally came to a head on saturday when, apparently, my modem hit it’s last furlong. Man in a van came yesterday to umm and ahh over it, took it away and brought me a brand new one today. So I *think* we’re fixed.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Nothing in particular on the agenda today, I’m just going to try and get used to my new camera set up (oooooh!) and finish off a few journal pages I’ve not had time to play with yet.

I really needed a few days off, so I decided to take this weekend to just work on some portraits. Here’s what I’ve been working on so far this week. All of these are based on my ‘squares’ templates from Portraits 123, where you begin each portrait with a square and never have to draw an oval for the face.

These are the kind of portraits we’ll be concentrating on over the three classes. But don’t worry, we’ll go step by step and build it up from scratch, so even beginners can follow along. Read more »

Tomorrow’s UStream Show: Wing-It Wednesday

ustream-logo

Tomorrow’s UStream show doesn’t have a topic. I think I’m just going to spend the time working on finishing some portraits, including my sorceress, which has been hanging around since Christmas and I’m sick of looking at her.

Bring something along you need to finish and let’s put these oddments to bed!
