Rosie is a little girl who lives with her dad in a little house in a little village. She likes pirates and dollies and wellington boots and animals and dress up games just like any other little girl.

Her best friend is an orange cat called Marmalade. He isn’t Rosie’s cat, he belongs to a lady that Rosie’s dad calls Betsy Nextdoor, who lives in a little house with pretty green curtains, right next to Rosie’s.

Rosie met the little orange cat one snowy morning in December. Marmalade was sitting on the wall catching snowflakes with his paws, when Rosie walked by on her way to school catching snowflakes on her tongue. She stopped to give Marmalade a tickle behind his ear and her new friend purred in return. He introduced himself and told Rosie that he liked snow. He also told her liked fish, warm fires, sunshine, sparkly toys and best of all, he liked adventures.

Later that day, when Rosie came home from school, she asked Betsy Nextdoor if she could take Marmalade on one of her own adventurse because she was about to embark on a fearsome quest, travelling the high seas to find pirate treasure.

Betsy said that would be just fine as long as he was back in time for his tea.
