The Siamese Twins

by Rhomany

Remember Charlie, the naughty Siamese?

A friend of mine asked me to create a pair for it, so he could give them to his wife (who breeds Siamese cats), for her birthday. Since I got to know them both through our shared love of gaming (we’ve been online guild-mates through 3 guilds and several games), I thought a computer/gaming theme might be appropriate.

So allow me introduce Charlie’s haughty little sister, Sophia, who now resides with my friends Rien & Eline, their possé of Siamese cats and her brother Charlie, in the distant land of The Netherlands.

How To Make Someone’s Day in 140 Characters or Less

'Bear' approves of his new spot, right next to my chair

Yesterday I went up to Manchester and spent 3.5 hours with the lovely Gracey getting my dreads sorted out. Usually I can fully manage my hair myself, but I’ve been so busy I’ve been neglecting them and the painin my right hand has been too much to work all day and then spend time doing my own hair. The worse my wrists get the longer it takes and harder it gets for me to do my own maintenance, which resulted in a lot of mangling at the roots that I couldn’t sort out myself. They feel so much better now, albeit stuck out at weird angles(!) and I’ll be able to manage them myself again.

I’ve spent last night and today re-organising my studio/lounge.  Again. Yes, I know I did it over Christmas but that was more a mini-reorganisation of my desk. This time I moved everything. And I do mean everything, with the exception of 2 bookcases I’m saving for a whole other day.

The problem was I had my desk along the wall next to the door. This was opposite the window (which meant I couldn’t get any natural light in my videos due to shadows) and really drafty. I’ve been round the house with a candle trying to pinpoint that draft and I have no idea where it was coming from, but it meant that after an hour at my desk the whole of my right side was frozen. My wrists simply can’t handle the cold, so my right wrist permanently hurt and I had to start taking painkillers a lot more than I’m comfortable with i.e. outside of times I have a migraine.

Prompted by a new class that needs daylight, no creative urge whatsoever despite having work to do and this draft issue that I simply could not handle a minute longer, I moved everything. My desk is now by the window where I can get some natural light on my work and am out of the draft whilst still being able to watch TV. The sofa is behind the door, also out of the draft but in line with the TV (I’m not a huge TV addict, but I like to watch films to relax or while I art journal). An added bonus of the move is that right next to me is the left side of the sofa which is Bear’s favourite spot. I no longer have to disturb him by wheeling across the room to pet him.

I have no pictures because I’m on a tight schedule and couldn’t devote more than one evening and a day to it, so I need to clean thoroughly. It’s amazing how much crap can accumulate behind things like bookcases and computers. I won’t even tell you about some of the stuff I’ve found that’s fallen off the back of the desk in just 18 months.

Today, on Twitter, after mentioning this humongous undertaking just a few times(!), Sam said I was a ‘very hard working artist’. I told her I had to be – it’s what pays the rent. Here’s what she said back…

May be so, but you’re very good at what you do, and I feel happiness/ joy in the Spirit of your work! @samsart5

That is possibly the nicest thing anyone has said to me since I started to turn this this art-making thing I do into a viable business venture. That and the warm corner I now have to make art in (complete with kitty), have totally made my day.

So It’s National Scrapbooking Day…

by Rhomany

…and you’ve been working on a few things, even found an online crop to join in on.

You lost your pencil earlier but you found it after lunch  stuck in your hair.

Since then everything’s been going OK but now… well you just can’t find that inkpad you were going to use to distress that photo mat.

So you naturally you start asking around…

Taking the weekend off here to chill after a hectic few days getting the website up and running. I have a script to finalise (Guild Play happening again soon and it needs to go up tomorrow) and then I’m painting.

Oh and dying my roots purple to match my dreads.

But that almost counts as painting. Right?

Trick or Treat?

by Rhomany

I have big plans for some scary movies I didn’t get to see when they came out and some hot stew with dumplings.

I’ll also be updating my BoS and cuddling the cats who don’t like the noise of the fireworks.

Have a good one. And eat lots of candy. :)

And She’s Back. Finally.

by Rhomany

Not only is the crazy end of term and holiday stuff over, but I’ve also finished catching up on all the stuff I didn’t have time to do during the aforementioned crazy end of term stuff and holiday stuff.

This week’s find:-

For those of you of an alternative bent (you know who you are) check out Offbeat Scrapperbookers. As far as I can gather it’s a small group of scrapbookers who like the alternative side of life but who don’t get anywhere near enough publicity to make their site viable and thriving. I found the link on Gothic Scrapbooking, a site I’ve mentioned before (but which is now being updated again, although it would appear periodically). Offbeat Scrapbookers has groups for Goths, Punks and Geeks (they’re lacking an inked group Anam ;) ) amongst others, so I think in the interests of there not being anywhere near enough alternative stuff around, at least a couple of us should go join in :)

Onto the making of things and despite the lack of posting I have not been creatively lazy, just ‘uploadingly-lazy’. So, in an effort to catch up, here’s some stuff I’ve made for other people lately.

Journal Jar & Journal set for Jan

Handmade, coptic bound journal covered with some gorgeous papers from Dovecraft’s ‘Amethyst Floral Prints’ pack.

Another ‘cancer’ card for the boss’s hubby

Hand decorated white Bazzill card with a funky foam cut-out crab

A Wedding Card

For one of the girl’s at work, following the brief ‘we want it girlie and pretty and pink’. White Bazill with silver ‘prom dress’ peel offs form a QVC pack and some pretty pink flowers I found in the bottom of a box szomewhere. I put the flowers on acetate with silver MM brads and put the peel offs underneath to add texture to the layers. Inside was a paper lining to match the flowers and I used the same colour organza ribbon to finish the spine.

All very cute and girlie and obviously for other people. I’ve got a couple of other things that are more ‘me’ I’m working on but they’re all ‘works in progress’, so instead here’s a gratuitous, but quite rare shot of my blue-eyed boy instead.

And please, someone, anyone, save me from ‘reality’ tv. If that’s ‘reality’ I want the blue pill please. Or the red one. In fact, just gimme both together, it has to be better than ‘diet-on-the-dancefloor-come-supermodel-downsize-my-dinner-plate-while-I-renovate-my-home-in-a-foreign-country-with-the-funds-I-just-got-from-auctioning-off-granny’s-china’.
